Visualization & Co – a strip on terms that we are fed up with

▶ Listen to the article below

Oh, dear! Such a great subject being promoted like a simple imagination exercise.

If you are reading this you have probably heard about “Visualize this and that and you will achieve your goal…” again – Oh, dear!

Let’s break down this overused term that seems like a magical potion to transform your life.

What Visualization is NOT

Visualization is NOT imagining! I can not stress this enough. Visualization does not mean you imagine where you want to be and how you’d like to feel about it and then one day, out of nowhere, it suddenly happens. Sounds familiar, right? It is because of poor quality information you were exposed to about this subject.

Imagine this – pay attention – imagine, one day you see a TikTok video of the wonderful trick named visualization. In 1 minute it is presented to you as a daily morning routine, a short one, which you probably exercise next to your morning coffee and most probably it follows some journaling. Nothing more. Then after 3 years something unexpected happens in your life which makes you a millionaire or whatever you visualized to be. Oh, dear! In this particular case you were wrongly informed that visualization equals imagination. It does not!

First of all, imagination is a skill, it’s an intellectual faculty that everyone is capable of and can expand its use to be creative, to finish projects, to find multiple solutions, to create art, to read stories, to fill information and so on. You do not have to be creative to have imagination. Everyone has imagination skills.

Visualization IS

Ok, so if visualization is not imagining, then what is it? Visualization is a complex process that can help you achieve your goals, overcome your fears, heal trauma and so on. Not that interesting anymore, huh?! 🙂 Saying this, you can only imagine that quite a few people really do it right.

It might be called visualization, but in order to work you will have to engage all your senses. Do not confuse visualization as a personal development process with a powerpoint visual / graphics / etc. Even though the words are the same, the first one refers to being able to look into your own self and project what you want to achieve, while the second one refers to looking outside yourself and having a raw form of physical presentation.

In this complex process, imagination has only a role to play, it is not the way to do it. Through visualization you will use, planning, management, will, courage, strategy, your intellect, knowledge and expertise. Visualization is more of a see, rather than imagine

The harsh truth is that visualization will not make you a millionaire or whatever you were told. Visualization is a process that you can master and use to connect to your goal and transpose that feeling, activity, knowledge, attitude, resources etc. into your present situation. It also requires a lot of discipline in your thought process in order to have the desired outcome. So, where do you stand with discipline?

So there it is, hope I have answered some of your questions. Leave a comment or message me for more.
